Political rivals challenged to bowl off for charity

The Sports Ministers for both Government and the Opposition will go head to head with a former junior international championship bowler at a ten-pin bowling challenge on Thursday to aid charity.

Expert bowler Chris Bardgett said he suggested the idea to the politicians at an award ceremony in order to aid junior bowling in Bermuda.

Mr. Bardgett said Minister of Community Affairs and Sport Dale Butler and Shadow Minister of Sport Jon Brunson were always challenging each other to sporting challenges, like running races, but this time he told them to put their money where there mouths are.

Mr. Butler and Mr. Brunson will have to beat Mr. Bardgett to avoid paying out an undisclosed sum to the Onion Seeds bowling league for children ranging in age from three to 18-years-old.

The bowl-off will take place at Warwick Lanes at 7 p.m. on June 29, he said.

?I intend to win,? Mr. Bardgett said. ?But ultimately it will be junior bowling that wins. It is an exciting way to step up the programme and encourage them to stay off drugs and stay off the streets and be good members of society.?
