Premier offers support for National Day of Prayer

Premier Alex Scott is hoping Bermudians of all religions will come together tomorrow as a nation and ask God to bring healing to Bermuda and the global community.

Speaking at a Press conference yesterday, Mr. Scott proclaimed Government?s support for the National Day of Prayer which takes place tomorrow.

Mr. Scott said he knew that all was not well with Bermuda or its people.

?We are witnessing undesirable behaviour in our small Island that all right-thinking people of Bermuda find difficult to accept,? he said.

He said there were elements in society that did not reflect the honourable principles that the majority of people strive to uphold.

?Although we can acknowledge the determined efforts of the Government, our churches and community agencies to address these issues, we recognise that we cannot do it on our own strength,? he said, adding that we need ?divine intervention?.

?As we gather for this national service of prayer, we are mindful that we are indeed privileged recipients of God?s numerous blessings and his enduring grace.?

Mr. Scott said God continued to watch over Bermuda, ?as He did last week when Hurricane Nate threatened to strike us?.

He said Bermudians have so much to give thanks for and hoped that everyone would take the time to count their blessings and pray for continued peace, success and well-being.

?I trust that as we come together to offer our petitions for the healing of our country, that we will do so in the spirit of humility and gratitude,? he said.

Numerous events are planned Island wide and churches are encouraged to open their doors from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. to allow members of the public to pray. At noon a special prayer service will take place on the steps of City Hall.

The day?s events culminate in a service at the National Sports Centre from 6 p.m. which people of all religions are invited to attend.
