Primary school registration starts soon

Registration for all Government Primary schools except Pembroke Primary is to begin on February 6 and run for three days, the Ministry of Education announced yesterday.

Due to the by-election, no registration can take place at West Pembroke on February 6, therefore it will begin on February 5 and then continue on February 7 and 8.

Parents interested in signing their children up for the Government system can collect application forms at the post offices, schools or the Ministry of Education as of February 1. The forms will also be available at the schools on registration days.

Parents must supply a copy of the child's birth certificate and non-Bermudians must present evidence from the Minister of Labour and Home Affairs that the children are residents of the Island.

"Places are not allocated on a first come, first served basis," said the Education press release. "All forms received over the three-day period will receive the same attention.

Those who wish to submit forms after February 8, 2002 must take them directly to the Department of Education.

"All application forms will be accepted," said the Ministry.

"Depending on the level of schooling sought, factors that may be taken into account when allocating places include the child's age, whether the child has siblings in the school and the proximity of the child's residence to the school."

Parents will be advised of the outcome of their application by mail after March 4, 2002.
