Purvis parents call for principal to be sacked

Parents of Purvis Primary School students are calling for the resignation of the school's principal, Roseclaire Bulgin.

They are circulating petitions demanding her dismissal and the re-instatement of the school's secretary.

The secretary, Margorie Armstrong, left the school more than two years ago when Mrs. Bulgin was appointed principal following an alleged disagreement between the two women.

An emergency PTA meeting was held at the school on Monday, but only one teacher and less than 50 parents showed up.

Mrs. Armstrong is the wife of PTA president Shivan Armstrong, but a former student, who requested anonymity, said that Mr. Armstrong was unaware of the petition.

She questioned the lack of teachers at the PTA meeting.

"It's an indication that something was seriously wrong at the school," she said.

Chief Education Officer Dr. Joseph Christopher said last night that the PTA president had been asked to provide a report in writing on any concerns. "A senior officer meets regularly with the principal. Nothing as of yet has come to my attention so I can not comment on it."

Mrs. Bulgin and Mr. Armstrong did not return phone calls by Press time last night.
