Saltus students display artistic talent
An art exhibition featuring works by Saltus Grammar School students opened last night.
The pieces, produced by 23 students, are the result of a two-year General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) arts programme.
With the assistance of teachers Lee Finch, Vaughan Evans and Fiona Murdoch, students studied various techniques using a myriad of materials.
Inspired by the works of Leonardo Da Vinci, Pablo Picasso, Vincent Van Gogh and others, students completed the course with a ten-hour examination in order to obtain their GCSE arts certificate.
The theme of this year's examination was "Above and Below".
The students spent eight weeks preparing for the exam, testing out materials, styles and colours that they would use to produce their pieces.
Four students from the Institute for Talented Students and instructor Lisa Rego also displayed their work. Mr. Finch said the pieces will be sent to the UK to be marked and the exhibition enables parents to get a glimpse of their child's work.
"I want to congratulate the students because over the last four weeks I have been very impressed at the level of dedication they have shown in producing, mounting and presenting their work," he said.
The exhibition, at Saltus on weekdays after 3.30 p.m., takes place over the next two weeks.
