School hand-over continuing apace

Jeane Butterfield and Gabe Martell conduct inspection of science labs

The Ministry of Works and Engineering has handed over completed parts of the Berkeley Senior Secondary School to the Ministry of Education.

Areas include the principal's office, offices for three deputy principals, meeting and seminar rooms and training facilities.

Also handed over was a meeting room for the Berkeley Historical Society, staff kitchenette, washrooms, staff lounge, library, seminar rooms, labs and teachers' room.

Last month the Ministry of Education received classrooms in the western part of the school. Jeane Butterfield, facilities manager for the Ministry of Education and Development, said she was impressed with the progress being made at the facility, which will officially open to students in January.

"In terms of the physical facility, it's going to be the pride of the Island."

Berkeley will be home to approximately 850 students, offering a variety of specialised courses in computer graphics and design and technology labs.
