A school has asked music lovers to donate violins, so its pupils can learn to play.

Eight students at Francis Patton Primary have been attending the popular free lessons for the past year, and now 14 more are eager to start, making a total of 22 budding string players.

However, the school does not have enough instruments, and needs at least six more in order to give all the students the opportunity to play.

Music teacher and keen violinist Mandy Wells, who is behind the after-school lessons said: "If we have a similar number of students who want to learn next year, we could be looking at up to 40 violin and viola players at the school, which is quite a healthy programme.

She hopes that kind-hearted Bermudians might therefore give the school unwanted half and quarter size instruments, as the students are gaining a great deal from their lessons.

Anyone that can help should drop their instruments off at the school on North Shore Road, Hamilton Parish.

Alternatively, Mrs. Wells would be happy to collect them, and can be contacted by e-mail at mwellsmoed.bm or by telephone on 293-1840.
