School term drags on for some

School finally closed for the summer yesterday, but some parents were curious about the unusual closing date.

The beginning of the week may seem like a bad day to end off the school year for public school students however there was good reason behind it explained Chief Education Officer Dr. Joseph Christopher.

?The mandated school year for the Bermuda Public School System covers 200 days. Dates for the start and end of the 2004/2005 school year were circulated to schools and parents at the start of this year school year in September 2004. In order that the requisite number of days is achieved this year, the last day for students is Monday, 27th June.?

Though the Monday closing date may have put a slight damper on this past weekend, schools made it up to Dellwood M2 students with a day of fun at the Snorkel Park in Dockyard.

The lucky students spent their last day using kayaks and snorkel gear, provided free of charge by and got the chance to do activities including kayak races throughout the day.
