Scott set to reveal plans for ?social agenda?
Premier Alex Scott will shed light on Government?s ?social agenda? when he speaks on the opening night of the Progressive Labour Party?s annual conference next week.
Mr. Scott?s speech on Monday at Devonshire Recreation Club will be the first time that the Government, which is expected to expand on the ten-year plan in the Throne Speech next Friday, will have released details of the programme.
Mr. Scott has said that the ?social agenda? along with plans for sustainable development, will now be the Government?s main focus.
?Premier Scott will use the Leader?s Address to make a significant statement on the Social Agenda that will be detailed in the upcoming Throne Speech,? PLP acting spokesman Sen. Walter Roban said in a press statement.
He added that the speech will be open to the media and the general public.
Top Government Ministers are expected to lay out plans for the social agenda within their individual Ministries in closed sessions during the rest of the week-long conference.
Sen. Roban said: ?The statements by Ministers will address key objectives of empowerment, and (opportunities) with numerous others such as sustainable development in furtherance of the much anticipated social agenda.?
The weeklong conference is themed ?The Party that Delivers ? A Stable Economy, Solid Education and Affordable Housing.?
Education Minister Terry Lister will lead delegates? discussion on efforts to strengthen public schools on Tuesday evening.
And, on Thursday Ms Cox and Labour Minister Randolph Horton will kick off discussion on labour and immigration, economic empowerment and opportunity.
Friday will be given over to Bermuda?s young people with a forum discussion on ?Mobilising Future Leaders? led by PLP youth. The party is inviting all Bermuda?s youth to this event.
The conference will end on Saturday when Finance Minister Paula Cox delivers the keynote address at the annual banquet at the Fairmont Southampton Hotel.
?This conference is also viewed by the party as just another stage in preparing ourselves to make a significant step in bringing the goal of the ?New Bermuda? in the grasp of all Bermudians,? Sen. Roban said.
