Yesterday's Meals on Wheels 'themed' lunch at St. Paul's Christian Education Centre will be the last one until autumn.

Volunteer coordinator Mingo Cook said that the lunches end in June and return in October and are designed for seniors who are more mobile.

Ms Cook said buses that transport meals to houses will still be in operation during the summer.

"Our volunteers are older and many of them have children, plus the time of year that we take off is very hot," said Ms Cook.

The lunches always take place on the first Thursday of every month and always have a theme.

Yesterday's lunch featured a picnic and included cold salads. And to help cool off during the hot afternoon, Butterfield and Vallis donated Haagen Dazs ice cream bars.

Volunteers shop, prepare and serve food and entertainment is always part of the programme.
