Special needs children to attend Orange Valley
Government is this week set to announce further details about the opening of the Island's new school for special needs children - along with the relocation of adults with learning difficulties. The new school will be open in September at the Orange Valley School in Parsons Lane, Devonshire, to cater to those youngsters with special needs who do not progress well in mainstream education.
The Education Ministry moved to provide an alternative school after parents said the special needs of their children were too severe to be met in the Island's public classrooms.
A search for a prime location was carried out, and education officers opted for the Orange Valley site.
However, that means that about 15 adults who have been attending the school will have to be relocated, and, as of yesterday, no announcement had been made as to where they would be sent from the start of the coming term.
But The Royal Gazette understands that the social centre at St. Brendan's Hospital is one option, along with WindReach in Warwick.
A Government spokeswoman said: "There is a transition period going on.
"The older special needs adults are being transitioned into another facility, but we don't know where that is yet. It has yet to be announced."
