St. George?s man violated bail conditions

A St. George?s man who breached a bail condition to stay away from his former partner pleaded with a Magistrate not to lock him up because he feared he would lose his job and apartment if he was unable to work while waiting for a trial date to come around. But the 37-year-old was unsuccessful and was remanded in custody until November 9 after admitting entering the home of his former partner without permission on October 2. He denied a second charge of also entering the home without permission on October 4. The man told the court he had only gone to his former partner?s home on the first date to ask her to drop charges which related to bail conditions he said were affecting his work life.

The man said he was a subcontractor in charge of six other workers and also worked in the evening at a large hotel.

However, the court was told his decision to go to the woman?s home breached a previous bail condition.

Magistrate Edward Bailey told the defendant he had no option other than to remand him in custody until a trial could be held for the second charge to which he had entered a not guilty plea.

The man said: ?I?m likely to lose my business and apartment. I?m not a hindrance to the public, I only went there because it (the previous bail condition) was a hindrance to me because of the night job I have.? Despite his pleading the man was remanded in custody. As he was led from the courtroom he said: ?I just lost my job, apartment, everything!?
