Students find a world of career options
Students crowded Number One Shed yesterday afternoon to learn about their future careers.
The Careers Fair featured many options for students or those just thinking about changing their careers.
Both floors of the Front Street location were filled with booths ? from insurance to the Bermuda Police Service to Four Star Pizza ? complete with information about jobs and continuing education.
Fair attendees not only learned about possible career paths but also caught a glimpse of suitable fashion for work during the afternoon fashion show.
Desaha? Sampson-Smith, a Warwick Academy student, said the variety of companies was diverse.
?Some people are here for summer jobs so it?s good they have different level of jobs,? she said.
She suggested that the fair be held at least twice a year and if possible on a weekend if schools wouldn?t accommodate students attending.
But she added that the fashion show was a good way of attracting students.
Many students, including Warwick Academy student Jayn? Smith, came to the fair with a preferred career path in mind. Jayn? said she is interested in either accounting or being an actuary.
She added: ?The companies have all been very helpful and willing to guide you to other booths if you have questions they can?t answer.?
Saltus Grammar School student Andrew Beech came to the fair to find information about writing for . He added that he has an open mind for other careers as well.
?This has been very informative but the only thing they could have worked on was the sound when they were giving the tips for success because I couldn?t hear them.?
Several universities had booths set up for students hoping to further their education including the University of Warwick, Compu College and New England Institute of Technology.
Berne Furbert, who attends the Berkeley Institute, said she didn?t have a career path in mind.
?I came to pick up some pamphlets for school.?
Somersfield Academy student Mikhaela Konrad said she was interested in a career in cooking and was able to get information about schools that offer a chef programme.
?I like how they talk to you about what they have to offer and how you work in each field,? she said.
