The PLP has won the General Election.

Like 2003 the results were 22 seats for the PLP and 14 seats to the UBP — though four changed hands.

Premier Ewart Brown who is currently dancing on Court Street at the PLP rally said: “I expected a convincing victory. I know many months ago I called for 30 seats but a victory like this is just as a sweet."

He added that he was not aware of any leadership challenges.

In the biggest shock of the election former Opposition leader Michael Dunkley lost his bid to unseat Patrice Minors in Smith's North — Mr. Dunkley got 444 votes to 536 for Mrs. Minors.

Dr. Brown called Mrs. Minors' win "very special".

Mr. Dunkley said: "I'm doing great. I'm very shocked. People need to realise that I have a deep empathy for Bermuda and its people and they clearly spoke today.

"I'm Bermudian. I love this island and I want the best for it."

Though he added that "nasty seems to work" referring to the PLP's election campaign which has made personal attacks on Mr. Dunkley's personality and beliefs.

He said he had no regrets about taking on the challenge in Smith's North: "To win the government you have to win seats. I wasn't a good enough MP to win that seat. That's what happens in life. In life you learn from your shortcomings."
