Teen fined for speeding

A schoolboy stopped for speeding along North Shore Road who gave Police a false name was caught because the name belonged to someone on a Police ?look-out for? list.

Roger Lightbourne Jr., 16, said he was afraid after being stopped while doing 64 mph in Hamilton Parish and told officers he was Marshall Wolfe.

But if he was hoping to avoid punishment by pretending to be someone else, he was out of luck because Mr. Wolfe was already on a Police ?look-out for? list, Magistrates? Court was told.

Crown counsel Cindy Clarke said Lightbourne, of Tommy Fox Road, St. George?s, was riding a Scoopy bike when a Police officer using a laser gun clocked him going at 64 mph at 3.20 a.m.

She said Lightbourne was pursued by Police and pulled over, at which stage he gave his name as Marshall Wolfe.

He was given a speeding ticket made out in that name. As Police carried out checks they discovered that Mr. Wolfe was on a look-out for list and took Lightbourne to the Police station for further questioning.

Ms Clarke said Lightbourne continued to sign his name as Marshall Wolfe even at the Police station.

For giving a false name to a Police officer, which he admitted, Lightbourne was fined $200, he also admitted riding an unlicensed motorbike, for which he was fined $250 and to speeding, for which he was fined $350.

Magistrate Edward Bailey said the fines would be ?a burden on your parents who are no doubt struggling to pay rent and buy your clothes and gas for your bike just so you can go along the road like a rocket?. Lightbourne was given until the end of the year to pay the fines.
