Teen in court after school is broken into

A third teenager has appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday charged with breaking and entering Spice Valley Middle School on January 16 this year, stealing and damaging school property to the value of some $1,500.

Dean Pitt, 18, of Hibiscus Lane in Warwick, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Mr. Blackman told the court Pitt allegedly broke into the school and stole two sodas and hamburger meat before spray-painting a blackboard in a classroom, ripping a projector screen and damaging equipment in the classroom including a camera.

Pitt is to appear in court on March 28 in relation to another matter and Mr. Blackman told the court that the crime was allegedly committed while Pitt was under a strict curfew.

Pitt's mother, Angela Pitt was in court yesterday and told the court that her son was keeping to his curfew.

Mr. Warner asked how Pitt could be keeping his curfew if he was breaking into a school at 1 a.m.

Mrs. Pitt shrugged her shoulders and said she didn't know.

Pitt was remanded in custody and will appear in court for trial on May 16.

Meanwhile his co-accused, Devonne Hodgson, 18, from Eastdale Lane in Warwick and Erin Richardson, 19, from Southampton are also being remanded in custody until this date.
