Tourism shorts: Newark, Philadelphia flights to end by early December
Seasonal flights from Newark and Philadelphia offered by low-cost airline USA3000 will end by early December.
USA3000 began flying to Bermuda from Philadelphia in 2004 and later added flights from Newark and Baltimore. A spokeswoman from the Department of Tourism and Transport this week confirmed that the twice-weekly flights from Philadelphia would end on November 30, while the twice-weekly flights from Newark would end on December 9.
They are expected to resume next spring.
Two popular summer events in Bermuda have been suspended early, it was announced last night.
It was unclear why there had been a curtailment of both the Admiral?s Feast and the Gombey Beach Fete before the end of the cruise ship season next month, but a reason for the decision is expected today.
In a short statement last night the Director of Tourism Cherie Whitter said this year?s Summer Series of events was undergoing a few changes during the final month and both the weekly Admiral?s Feast at the Royal Naval Dockyard in Sandys, and the Gombey Carnival Beach Fete at Horseshoe Bay, in Southampton, would not be continuing into October as originally scheduled.
Mrs. Whitter did note that the season?s most popular event, Tony and Tina?s Wedding, will continue until October 25 with its new producers Yoshi Productions.
The original producer Paradigm Productions has withdrawn its services, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Transport.
