What is sustainable development?
Some facts about what sustainable development is and how it will be implemented in Bermuda:
l The United Nations? defines sustainable development as: ?Development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.?
The Sustainable Development Project Team is tasked with determining how this definition would work in Bermuda.
The team plans to create a strategic framework, an action plan, a communication strategy (including a consultation document to be mailed to every household), and a steering group formed from various Government departments.
An Independent Round Table has been formed with representatives of the Opposition United Bermuda Party, and Government and its purpose is to advise the project team and represent a broad range of the Bermuda community.
A Sustainable Development Unit (SDU) will be created located in the centre of Government and this will be formed once the Strategic Action Plan has been finalised.
