Woman apologises for gesture towards Police officer

A woman who stuck her middle finger up at a Police officer who had given her a parking ticket has been warned not to commit another offence within the next 12 months or face being punished for her moment of frustration.

Samantha Francis Hill, 20, was upset when she returned to her motorcycle and found a Police officer ticketing illegally parked vehicles in Paget who warned her that her bike was also parked illegally and had committed an offence, Magistrates? Court heard. According to prosecutor Anthony Blackman, Hill told the officer she was going to move her bike but the officer told her not to move it. Instead Hill got on her bike and rode away, as she did so she turned and raised her middle finger towards the Police officer.

?The officer was offended and gave chase. Hill was arrested and charged. She was taken to Hamilton police station and said she was sorry for what she had done,? said Mr. Blackman.

Hill, of Tankfield Lane, Paget, pleaded guilty to using offensive behaviour on June 4 and apologised again when she appeared in court.

She told Senior Magistrate Archibold Warner: ?I had a lot of stress that day. I really did not mean to do it and I?m sorry.?

Hill was given a 12-month conditional discharge.
