A group of women touched by the plight of alleged elder abuse victim "Auntie Em" have raised hundreds of dollars to help the 95-year-old widow.

The Phenomenal Women Association opened a bank account to raise cash for Wilhelmina Liburd after The Royal Gazette revealed last September the neglect it is claimed she suffered at her Devonshire home.

Radio presenter Miss Thang, the association's founder, urged listeners to dig into their pockets and make a donation to help Mrs. Liburd, who is partially blind and had to have part of a leg amputated due to gangrene.

Members handed over a cheque for $650 to Mrs. Liburd's nephew Stephen Woodley. He said he was grateful for the assistance and would use the money to help pay outstanding bills for her care.

The great grandmother is now in the Continuing Care Unit at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

The Phenomenal Women Association also gave $300 each to Victor Scott Primary School, Elliott Primary School and Whitney Institute for library books.
