Alcoholic who stole keg of beer sent for medical attention

A visibly shaking alcoholic was sent for immediate medical attention after he admitted stealing a keg of beer and entering property as a trespasser.

Wayne Thomas Moran, of Cox's Hill Road, Pembroke, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to entering a business on October 7 and stealing a keg of Heineken beer.

He also pleaded guilty to not being at his place of abode and having an article in connection with burglary, namely a screwdriver.

The court heard from Crown counsel Cindy Clarke the complainant went to his business in Spanish Point the day before and locked up before leaving.

He returned the next day to find the door of the warehouse ajar so he went and checked the video surveillance. The complainant saw Moran on the video and noticed a keg of Heineken worth $32 was stolen.

He attended Spanish Point Park with his brother, the co-owner of the business, and saw the 50-year old under a tree with the keg in between his legs drinking beer out of a cup.

The defendant admitted to stealing the keg and using a screwdriver to enter the property.

Moran told the court he wanted to go to rehab and needed medical assistance.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo ordered Social Inquiry and BARC reports and bailed the defendant.

After speaking with probation officer, Noel Hayward, Mr. Tokunbo decided to remand Moran in custody to get immediate medical attention.
