BLDC seeks retroactive approval to store cruise berth equipment

The Bermuda Land Development Company has applied for retroactive permission to store construction materials for the Dockyard Cruise Ship Pier at Morgan's Point.

Andrew Swan has submitted a Planning application to store and prepare such materials as granular backfill, sand, rebar cages and piles at the former US Naval Annex. The application is to cover a three-year period.

Documentation at the Department of Planning says: "This is a retroactive application re: the new land use at Morgan's Point. The site is currently being used to store and prepare construction materials for the Dockyard Cruise Ship Pier and GTA. It is anticipated that these activities could extend for three years."

The materials are being stored at ten sites on the Government-owned Sandys peninsula. They are listed as: granular backfill; rebar cage; GTA pile; coated pile; pile; a garage; rebar; sand; and two pipe welding staging areas.

An inventory of equipment reads: payloader; skid steer loader; a ten-ton forklift; 20 ton forklift; three four-ton forklifts; two golf carts; four welding machines; crane; two hopper mixers; a third yard concrete mixer; telehandler; sifter; genie boom.

The activities at Morgan's Point are described as: fabricate piles for Cruise Ship Terminal; fabricate rebar cages; stock pile of granular backfill; maintain construction equipment; storage of construction materials and equipment for Cruise Ship Terminal.
