Choir is going to DisneyWorld!
The Prospect Primary School Show Choir will be taking centre stage at Disney World's Magic Kingdom next February.
The 37-member choir heard on Friday that it had passed an audition to perform at Disney's Galaxy Theatre.
And they will also take part in a workshop that includes voice-over techniques and a recording session with a Disney vocal artist while there for the February 27 concert.
The Show Choir, selected from the school's 54-student Concert Choir, will be performing a selection of their songs, said choir director Lindsey Berthiaume, who added she was excited about the group's opportunity and attributed the success to the hard work and dedication of the students.
She said she was very impressed with the quality and calibre of the singers at such a young age, who are in Primary 5 and Primary 6. "It is a wonderful thing to see these students involved in positive activities and role modelling for their peers," she said. "This is a springboard for future accomplishments for them all.
"The sky is the limit and it is important they know this early on."
Mrs. Berthiaume said the Show Choir had to put together an audition package consisting of pictures of the members in their choir attire, a videotape of the choir performing two to three styles of songs, plus choreography for each style.
She said Show Choir is an exciting addition to the active music programme, which includes other instruments.
Students from the Concert Choir, who are selected for the Show Choir based on their attendance, discipline, focus and dedication to rehearsals which are after school and on Saturdays.
Mrs. Berthiaume thanked Prospect Primary's principal, Dr. Durham-Thompson, the school's administrative team and Arts Education Officer Wendell (Shine) Hayward for their continued support of the music programme.
The Show Choir is actively seeking fundraising opportunities and donations as the performance date is just three months away.
