A Delta flight with 160 passengers had to be diverted to Bermuda yesterday when one of its two engines stopped working.

The 757 flight was en route from New York to Santo Domingo when the left engine went down 320 miles off Bermuda.

It landed shortly after 1 p.m. where fire crews were waiting. Mechanics found an oil leak which was fixed before the plane left at 3.30 p.m. for Santo Domingo.

Lt. Colin Swan of the Bermuda Fire Service said the plane was capable of going some distance on one engine and the Airport had one or two such emergencies every year.
