End-to-End starts at 8 a.m.
More than 2,500 people will walk, cycle, horseride and row the length of the Island today, all in the name of charity. The popular End-to-End challenge, which is now in its 21st year, has raised more than $2.5 million for good causes.
This year's event includes more than a dozen different routes of varying lengths, and will benefit six local charities — the Adult Education School, the Bermuda National Trust, the Duke of Edinburgh Award, the Family Centre, Greenrock and the WindReach Explorers Summer Camp.
Online registration is closed, but participants can still register at the various starting points. Those are:
• For walkers: End-to-End (40km/24.1 miles) starts at 8 am at King's Square, St. George, Middle-to-End (24km/14.7 miles) starts at 10 am at Albuoy's Point, Hamilton, Fun Walk, (5km/3 miles) starts at 2 pm at Somerset Long Bay, Sandys.
• For cyclists: End-to-End-to-End (double the length of the Island) 8:00 am start at Dockyard. End-to-End, 10 am start at King's Square, St. George. Middle-to-End, 11am start at Bermuda College in Paget.
• Swimmers should check in at Watford Bridge (East Jetty) at 10:30 am for 11:30 start. The Rowing is due to start at 7:30 am at Whites Island. Equestrians start on the Railway Trail in Paget at 8:30 am.
The organisers said yesterday that despite poor weather forecasts, the onshore events will take place come rain or shine.
However, since there is a small craft warning in effect, the starts for water-based events will be determined by the on site marshalls.
