Former caregiver denies taking $32,000 from senior

A former caregiver for an elderly man has denied stealing more than $32,000 from him.Gaynette Holder is alleged to have taken $25,100 in cash from George Welch, who is aged in his 90s.She is further accused of plundering his Bank of Bermuda account of $7,006.46 and taking four of his watches. Also taken were three sets of cufflinks and three sets of tie pins.

A former caregiver for an elderly man has denied stealing more than $32,000 from him.

Gaynette Holder is alleged to have taken $25,100 in cash from George Welch, who is aged in his 90s.

She is further accused of plundering his Bank of Bermuda account of $7,006.46 and taking four of his watches. Also taken were three sets of cufflinks and three sets of tie pins.

Holder, 47, of Park Lane, Pembroke, pleaded not guilty to 14 charges dating from 2005 and 2006 during a brief appearance at Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Magistrate Juan Wolffe scheduled her trial for September 2 and 3, having heard from Crown counsel Robert Welling that there will be at least one witness from overseas.

He extended bail until that time.
