History of the Pompano Beach Club
A history of the Pompano Beach ClubAmerican Tom Lamb Jr. fell in love with Bermuda during a number of vacation trips in the early 1950s and formed a partnership with Bermudian friend Ewing Trott to create Bermuda’s first fishing club.
The club was called the Pompano Club after the popular fish found in he shallow sand flats near where the resort now stands.
The original club opened in 1956 as a small fishing lodge taking guests deep sea fishing and allowing them to enjoy their catch the same day at the club’s small dining room.
Mr. Lamb bought the club outright and from 1957 started adding accommodation buildings until it had developed into a small hotel. The club added the word “beach” to its name.
All the buildings are named after local game fish as a tribute to the resort’s fishing club heritage.
The latest additions to Pompano have been a further 14 guest rooms and a second restaurant, the Ocean Grill.
