Horizons staff forced to move after fire
Four people were left homeless after a fire ripped through their living quarters at the Horizons Guest House property in Paget.
The group is now temporarily living in one of the cottages on South Road near Elbow Beach Park. “The building will not be re-let for staff. It is unsafe now,” said Horizons general manager Martin Duxbury.
The two-storey structure is situated away from the main property, near the Horizons golf facility. According to Mr. Duxbury, the fire was not much of a disturbance to any of the guests despite four emergency vehicles and 11 fire fighters rushing to the scene.
No one was hurt in the blaze, but the employees lost all of their belongings.
There is no estimate yet on the cost of damages, but the structure is being described as a complete loss. A fire spokesperson said the investigation underway after the fire on Sunday night is continuing.
Mr. Duxbury explained the investigative process he saw as “sifting through the rubbish and debris to determine the cause”.
He said, in the seven years he has worked at the property, it was the first fire he could remember. The blaze broke out 6.13 p.m. on Sunday according to fire officials and took about an hour to extinguish.
