Hotel's renovated Bay Wing is renamed Bermudiana House

Winning name: The Bay Wing at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess Hotel, which has been undergoing extensive renovations, is to be known as Bermudiana House after a competion was held to find a new name for the western portion of the hotel.

The newly renovated wing of the Fairmont Hamilton Princess will be renamed after almost 250 people entered a find-a-name competition.

Bay Wing will now be known as the Bermudiana House - a name chosen by competition winner Leslie Patterson. The wing is undergoing a complete renovation.

After organisers took out the duplicate names, 190 different ideas were submitted. Seven people entered the name Bermudiana, five of whom were hotel employees.

Mr. Patterson was chosen from a random drawing among the seven contestants.

As the winner, he and a guest will enjoy a weekend stay in the Bay Wing as a guest of the Fairmont Hamilton Princess including afternoon tea in the Heritage Court, and brunch and dinner at Harley's.

Mr. Patterson has also been invited as a guest to the June 2008 opening ceremony for the new wing.

General Manager, Jon Crellin said: "We chose Bermudiana House to reflect the hotel's heritage and because we are committed to creating a truly local experience for our guests.

"We were surprised and delighted at the extent of the response. Our youngest contest entrant was a seven-year-old from Devonshire.

"The entry from furthest away arrived from England, where the contest entrant had read about the Fairmont contest online.

"The community's enthusiasm in this contest has been terrific, and I've been touched by how many people have thanked us for allowing them to be involved."

When the Bermudiana House re-opens, it will have the look and feel of a luxury home with its island inspired decor featuring a classic design consistent with the rest of the hotel.
