Man blames cleaning chemicals for accident

A 27-year-old man told Magistrates’ Court on Friday he blamed cleaning chemicals for making him lose control of his bike.

Kevin Trott, of Joels Alley, Pembroke, pleaded guilty to riding a motorcycle without due care, which led to a single vehicle accident on December 10, 2006.

Trott blamed the chemicals used while cleaning his bike for making it slippery and therefore difficult to control when negotiating a bend.

Crown counsel Carrington Mahoney told the court at 8.15 p.m. on Sunday, December 10, Trott travelling at a high speed tried to negotiate the right hand bend at Crow Lane.

Trott clipped the traffic light and lost control of his bike and crashed which led to bruising on his face, a broken toe, and broken arm.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo asked Trott if he had anything to say.

Trott said: “I was speeding, but not that fast. It was because of the chemicals.”

Trott has three prior convictions for speeding, which meant Mr. Tokunbo could have disqualified him for up to 18 months from all vehicles.

Mr. Tokunbo fined him $1,000.
