Man verbally abuses magistrate
An angry defendant charged around a courtroom shouting abuse at a magistrate.
"Take me to jail, take me to f****** jail!" yelled Shaki Weeks as he apparently attempted to escape from Magistrates' Court yesterday.
Weeks first headed for the back door but, on finding that blocked by court staff, he made a dash towards a side door.
When he was thwarted by staff again, he ran toward the back door once more. However, this time court officials grappled with him and led him from the room.
As they escorted him out, Weeks made a reference to his charge — possession of cannabis resin — by shouting at Magistrate Shade Subair: "You have got issues, woman! I don't want to go to jail for that!"
Even after Weeks left the room, the noise continued as he seemed to scream abuse from outside the courtroom.
Weeks, 29, from Friswells Road, Devonshire, was in court after failing to answer Police bail on the cannabis resin charge.
When Ms Subair asked why he had not answered bail, he said: "The cop's a liar."
He told the court he believed Police would have tried to frame him if he had co-operated.
"I just spent the whole night in a Police station for this," he said. "I'm supposed to be in court tomorrow for this resin. I don't understand it."
Ms Subair then replied that Weeks was in court for failing to answer bail, at which point the defendant ran amok.
He was remanded in custody and is today due to reappear at Magistrates' Court on the cannabis resin charge, which he denies.
