MP's son denies drug charge
The son of Government Whip Glenn Blakeney is to stand trial for possession of $5,000 worth of cannabis with intent to supply.
Jahmel Blakeney, 26, appeared at Magistrates' Court yesterday where he denied possession of cannabis with intent to supply and a count of simple possession.
Prosecutor Paula Tyndale told the court he was discovered with 111 grams of the drug, worth about $5,000, on January 18 in Pembroke.
Blakeney, of Stovell Bay Road, Pembroke, opted for a summary trial at Magistrates' Court and the matter was adjourned until May 12. He was given bail in the sum of $10,000 with one surety.
The MP's son was arrested in the early hours of the morning on January 18 at a home in Spanish Point believed to belong to his father, owner of HOTT 107.5 radio station.
Officers also arrested a 22-year-old at the same property in connection with the Christmas Day and Boxing Day shootings. Police are understood to have executed a search warrant at the home as part of Operation Safer Streets, which was launched at the start of the year in direct response to the violence.
Glenn Blakeney told HOTT 107.5 presenter Thaao Dill's breakfast show that the 22-year-old who was arrested was later released by Police.
No one has yet been charged with the triple shootings, which saw Aquil Richardson murdered and two men seriously injured.
