Munn upbeat on education, drug fight

UK Overseas Territories Minister Meg Munn believes Bermuda is trying to get to grips with improving education and tackling drugs.

She made the observations after her flying visit to Bermuda at the end of last week when she had talks with Premier Ewart Brown on issues such as the financial sector and the Island's development.

There were also discussions covering the economy, governance and transparency and law enforcement. She also met other ministers, the Opposition, business leaders, police and soldiers.

Ms Munn told the Foreign and Commonwealth website: "There is a clear recognition of the importance of improving education and tackling drug crime and a growing awareness of the importance of tackling climate change.

"There is also a lively debate about good governance and transparent government. I came away with a clear view that Bermuda is a successful thriving country which recognises the challenges that it faces."

The visit came after the Minister gave evidence into a review of the Overseas Territories by in the Foreign Affairs Committee. And it follows the visit of three British MPs on the FAC.
