Naked tourists cause concern
The bare cheek of it - tourists flouting our Island's laws on both indecency and road safety.
At least they kept their helmets on, but one hates to think what kind of damage would have resulted if these naked motorcyclists had taken a tumble or been involved in a road traffic accident.
Throwing caution to the wind, the pair's antics have appeared on 'YouTube' under the title 'Naked on scooters in Bermuda'. An accompanying note suggests they are also drink-driving, stating: 'Two drunk maniacs driving naked on motor-scooters with 50 miles/hours in tropical Bermuda'.
The two young men were filmed from both the front and rear, and are seen standing up on their rental scooters and also 'mooning'. Despite the humorous intent however, the naked truth is that they were not only at risk of accident and injury, but also the long arm of the law.
Yesterday, the Bermuda Police Service said the video clip underlined a serious message to motorcyclists in the wake of several road deaths.
A Police spokesman said: "The Bermuda Police Service does not condone the behaviour shown in this particular video. We continue to strongly urge all road users to operate their vehicles responsibly while on the Island's roads. Both locals and visitors alike must be accountable for their actions on our roads as the Bermuda Police Service remains committed to doing its part by enforcing traffic laws."
Those convicted of impaired driving face a ban and fine, and even a jail sentence. Meanwhile, anyone caught exposing themselves in public can expect a penalty of $2,880 or six months' imprisonment, or both - as recommended in the Summary Offences Act 1926.
The Police spokesman said: "Bermuda has strict laws on indecency and suitable clothing when riding motorcycles."
