No rush for bus

Sleepy-eyed workers coming into Hamilton from St. George's did not all appear to realise yesterday was Burn Fat Not Fuel Day.

On the 8 a.m. number 10 bus, passengers rode in almost silence making their morning commute to work. Despite numerous advertisements and press conferences from the Government, the East Enders didn't seem aware, as many of them were regulars on the bus.

One woman said she didn't even know the ride was free or anything about Burn Fat Not Fuel Day. She said she was shocked the bus wasn't full as there are usually people standing up.

She also said most of the people on the bus were regulars and probably had a bus pass so free public transportation didn't benefit them. She added she anticipated the bus would have made more stops but it didn't.

The woman said although she wasn't aware of the initiative, she thought it was a great idea and said more people should have participated.

Looking at bus stops along the way, there didn't seem to be any more people than usual and traffic seemed about the same.

When this reporter stepped on the bus without bus fare, the driver just looked at her but didn't say anything about the ride being free.
