No violence reported at football matches
There appears to have been no incidents of violence during yesterday's football match between the PHC Zebras and the Boulevard Blazers at Southampton oval.
It comes after rumours swirled that there would be an armed attack between town and country gangs during the matches which almost resulted in the Bermuda Football Association (BFA) postponing the game.
The BFA teamed up with Police to organise an unprecedented amount of security surrounding the vicinity of the game, which yesterday saw everyone entering the grounds, being scanned for weapons with metal detectors.
Last night, a Police spokesman confirmed that there had been no arrests at the match and no reported incidents of violence.
Last week, Police Superintendent Mike Jackman revealed meetings with the BFA had been taking place after they received information that there might be retaliatory attacks at the game in the wake of the Christmas shootings.
In the early hours of Christmas Day when Jakai Harford, 24, was shot in the shoulder in the Camp Hill area of Southampton.
Around 9 p.m. on Boxing Day Aquil Richardson, 30, was murdered and Levar Smith, 25, shot in the legs — again in Camp Hill.
Few details about the shootings have been made public by the Police. They have made several arrests but are yet to charge anyone.
