Patient found dead at MAWI
An investigation has been launched after a 35-year-old man was found dead at the Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Police said they have yet to rule out foul play after receiving a report at 2.55 a.m. that the lifeless body of the patient, who was from Southampton, had been found.
Police said no further information would be released until next of kin were notified, adding that an autopsy was to be carried out.
Bermuda Hospitals Board — which runs the Devonshire mental health facility — issued a statement which read: "It is with deep regret that Bermuda Hospitals Board (BHB) confirms the unexpected death of a patient.
"We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the family. BHB contacted the Police, who are now undertaking a full investigation. Due to the investigation and our own duty of confidentiality to patients and their families, we are unable to make any specific details public."
