Peanut butter salmonella scare
A salmonella scare has led to the recall of batches of Peter Pan peanut butter.
Manufacturers Conagra Foods Inc., has issued a recall of jars with the code 2111 on the lid.
Bermuda agent Butterfield & Vallis has asked consumers to bring returns to the place of purchase or to Butterfield & Vallis in Orange Valley or Woodlands Road.
The product has been linked to a salmonella outbreak that has sickened almost 300 people across the States since August.
How salmonella got into peanut butter is still under investigation, said Dr. Mike Lynch, an epidemiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
About 20 percent of all the ill were hospitalised, but there were no deaths, Lynch said.
Salmonella symptoms can include diarrhoea, fever, dehydration, abdominal pain and vomiting.
