PRIDE Bermuda celebrating tenth Red Ribbon Week

Members of PRIDE Bermuda sing for the crowd gathered at City Hall yesterday.

The Parent Resource Institute for Drug Education (PRIDE) will celebrate its 10th annual Red Ribbon Week 2007, themed 'Ten years One Cause – Making a Difference Drug Free'.

According to PRIDE, drug and alcohol abuse in Bermuda creates staggering societal costs and prevents people from reaching their full potential at school, on the job and in the community.

From Monday October 22, to Sunday October 28, the public are invited to show their support for drug free youth by wearing one of their red ribbons, symbolising the cause.

The launch will take place at the City Hall with a proclamation ceremony declaring war on drugs and promoting prevention.

Additionally, an environmental change day, wear red day, prayer for children and a red ribbon finale and candlelight walk will take place throughout the week to reinforce the message.

The charity believes the Red Ribbon Celebration starts with the smallest gesture: a child pinning a red ribbon to his shirt, a young girl wearing a red ribbon wristband, or even a classroom planting red tulips.
