A female prison officer at Westgate was taken to hospital yesterday afternoon after an inmate attacked her with a pointed object.

The woman was treated for a puncture wound to her neck at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital's emergency room and later released.

Police said the incident was reported to them at about 12.45 p.m. yesterday and that officers were investigating the assault.
