Protest on US's inaction Kyoto Protocol today
A peaceful youth protest against the US Government’s unwillingness to comply with the Kyoto Protocol on climate change will take place this afternoon.
Bermuda High School student Caitlin O’Doherty has organised the demonstration outside the US Consulate, on Middle Road, Devonshire, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
It is being held on the International Day of Climate Action, when other protests will go on around the world. Caitlin, 13, from Warwick, said: “Recently I got involved with the environment at school and I thought it would be a great idea to bring awareness to Bermuda.
“America is the number one producer of greenhouse gases. It needs to reduce its emissions to help slow down the process of global warming. The truth is if they don’t do anything now it’s going to be way more expensive in the future.”
Astrid Black, a staffer at the US Consulate, said US Consulate General Gregory Slayton was not aware of the demonstration and would not be commenting on it.
