This season's flu vaccines now available

People will be able to get flu vaccines as they wait in their car under a new initiative being launched tomorrow.

The "Flu Express" will visit St. George's, Devonshire and Sandys so those who need a shot but cannot get to the Department of Health will be protected against influenza over the winter.

All people need to do is drive to the Flu Express site, wait in line and fill in a consent form before receiving their shot.

Vaccines will also be available at the Department of Health, costing $10 per shot for adults and children, from tomorrow. There is no charge for seniors over 65.

The first Flu Express will be at Penno's Wharf, St. George's, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. tomorrow; at Devonshire Somersfield Academy, Middle Road, from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday; and at Sandys Secondary Middle School, Scotts Hill Road, from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, November 10.

People who should consider attending the Flu Express include: adults and seniors and anyone who has had the flu shot before; and individuals in good health with no active infections.

Those with chronic health problems such as diabetes, chest or heart disease should inform their doctor when they have been vaccinated.

Shots will not be available to anyone with allergies to eggs or other chicken products, people who have had a reaction to a flu shot before and anyone with a fever.

Anyone visiting the Flu Express should dress comfortably to allow the nurse easy access to the injection site in the upper arm, and must have the right cash ready.

Vaccines can also be received at: Hamilton Health Centre, Victoria St, Mondays to Fridays, from 8.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m.; St. George's Health Centre, Old Military Road, Mondays from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.; and Somerset Health Centre, Mangrove Bay Road, Sandys, Wednesdays, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
