Two burglaries on New Year's

The new year started with Police investigating two burglaries — one in St. George's and the other in Southampton.

At 1.25 a.m. on Monday officers were called to a reported burglary in Dolly's Bay Lane, St. George's, and spoke to the occupant who said that sometime between 10.40 p.m. and 12.35 a.m. when the home had been unoccupied, an unknown person had broken in and taken a box containing foreign coins, $570 cash and three Playstation 2 controllers.

Earlier on New Year's Eve, Police attended the scene of a reported burglary at a Southampton guest property and spoke with a couple who were visiting the Island. The couple said that an unknown intruder had gained entry to their room around 7.30 p.m. on Sunday while they were in the bathroom getting ready for dinner. The burglar stole $440 cash.

Investigations into both incidents are underway.
