Woman gets absolute discharge for lying to Police

A woman who gave Police a false name when she was arrested was given an absolute discharge at Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Danielle Brown, 20, of North Shore Road, Pembroke, admitted perverting the course of justice on August 29. Crown Counsel Graveney Bannister said Police arrested her in Pembroke. She told them her name was Tashae Brown and gave a date of birth that was not her own. Further inquiries later showed her real name to be Danielle.

Brown apologised to the court and said she had lied because her two-month-old son was at home and she knew she had a warrant out for her arrest.

“My son’s father just recently passed away - that was another reason,” she added, as she started to cry.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner said she had learned a lesson, and discharged the matter - meaning Brown does not have a criminal conviction.
