Asbestos delays No. 1 shed demolition
The demolition of Number One Shed has been delayed for seven months to ensure the safe removal of asbestos from the building.
The No. 1 Shed was due to be razed to the ground earlier this month, but will now stay standing until the end of October. It means the pink building will remain a feature of the Hamilton waterfront through the summer season.
The Corporation of Hamilton announced the postponement yesterday. A spokesman said: "The extra time will allow the Corporation of Hamilton to make appropriate plans for the safe and efficient removal of asbestos, while ensuring that the entire seasonal schedule of Harbour Nights proceeds without interference."
The upper storey will be closed to special events but parking and toilet facilities on the ground floor will remain open.
"The public will be notified with further details closer to the demolition date," said the spokesman.
