Twenty years ago a spotlight shone on a young Danielle Hemmings at the Manchester Apollo Theatre.

Though her mother was a back-up dancer up on stage all eyes were on her.

Motown hit-maker Smokey Robinson had just dedicated 'My Girl', which he wrote for The Temptations, to 10-year-old Danielle.

But tonight the tables will be turned. Her mother Allison Bardgett, who now works at XL, will be in the audience and Danielle will be singing on the same stage as Smokey.

Fate intervened, in the form of Dame Jennifer Smith, to reunite the two.

Mrs. Hemming performed for Dame Jennifer in the summer at a charity event and was amazed at her voice. She recommended that Mrs. Hemming, who is 30 and a professional singer in England, come back as an act in the Bermuda Music Festival.

And when she heard about the Smokey connection she went a step further and recommended the two perform on the same night. "It's something you dream about; to perform at an international concert on the same stage as someone like Smokey Robinson," Danielle said yesterday. "But I never thought it would happen!

"I am really excited and have been preparing for months. I sing jazz and R&B."

Her mother and stepfather Chris Bardgett will be in the audience along with her sisters Rosie, Ryanne and Mackenzie, who all go to Saltus.

"It's the biggest gig I have ever preformed at so I am looking forward to it," Danielle said. "I just can't believe I am going to sing on the same stage as my idol."
