Man held for alleged sex assault

Police investigating a rape in Pembroke in the early hours of Sunday were yesterday questioning a man in custody.

The Royal Gazette understands the victim was forced to withdraw cash from an ATM at one point during her ordeal.

Releasing brief details about the incident for the first time yesterday, a Police spokesman said officers are interested in speaking with the driver of a car who may be able to assist with inquiries.

The vehicle stopped to let a silver-grey Kia car out of the Bank of Butterfield ATM area on Richmond Road, Hamilton, between 6 a.m. and 6.15 a.m. on Sunday.

The spokesman refused to disclose the age of the victim or the suspect, and which parish the suspect — who was arrested on Wednesday — is from.

Anyone with information that could assist the Police should contact Insp. Raphael Simons on 295-0011 or the confidential Crimestoppers hotline on 1-800-623-8477.
