Police to renew road safety campaign

A new road safety campaign is in the works in an effort to put the breaks on recent traffic fatalities.

There have been four deaths so far this year.

The Bermuda Police Service, the Bermuda Fire Service, the Bermuda Road Safety Council and local insurance companies are all working together on the campaign.

A Police spokesperson said: "(It) will highlight the importance of making good decisions on the road while emphasising the consequences of reckless driving behaviour."

The fourth fatality occurred Saturday when 27-year-old Canadian national David Roberts lost control of his bike on Parson Road.

Police said: "The four lives lost so far this year are a tragic reminder that Bermuda's roads can be dangerous and unforgiving if sensible driving practices are not adhered to. This is especially true for motorcycle riders."

It's not clear when the new campaign will be ready for launch.
