Premier's wife in collision

The Premier's wife was involved in a road crash yesterday afternoon which left a 45-year-old father-of-one in hospital.

Wanda Henton Brown was driving her beige Chrysler PT Cruiser along Pitts Bay Road in Pembroke just before 4 p.m. when the collision occurred with a SYM 125 motorcycle.

Police officers, firefighters and an ambulance attended and the bike rider, from St. George's, was taken to hospital. He was released just after 8 p.m. last night. Mrs. Brown is understood to have been unhurt.

The motorcyclist's 22-year-old daughter told The Royal Gazette: "He's in a whole lot of pain. It's his whole right side. He is in extreme pain and they have just given him codeine.

"He has a cut and a welt under his left eye. It's very puffy. It looks like he's been in a fight. Nothing is broken but his right arm feels broken and he has a gash. His right ankle is swollen."

She said her father was on his way to work travelling along Pitts Bay Road heading toward Serpentine Road when it happened. "This was just past Westmeath residential facility, heading to Mills Creek," she said. "There is a blind corner. He comes around the corner and sees her and slams on the brakes.

"He slid right into her. The Police came. He said she was shook up. She said she was going to come down and visit him. She was like: 'Oh, I'm going to come to the hospital'."

The rear of the motorcycle was damaged and Mrs. Brown's car also suffered a broken mirror and dented light and side panels.

Police confirmed the crash last night but gave out few details. A spokesman said: "We received the call at 4.10 p.m. It happened apparently at the junction of Pitts Bay Road and Serpentine Road between a car and a cycle.

"I don't know if it's being investigated. If indeed there is injury to someone, which I haven't been able to confirm at this point, it would be investigated."

Mrs. Brown could not be contacted for comment.
