The United Bermuda Party is setting up a committee to look at improving race relations in Bermuda.

It will be chaired by leader Kim Swan who told The Royal Gazette: "It is a very key effort."

He said Finance spokesman Bob Richards, Education spokesman Grant Gibbons and Community and Cultural Affairs spokesman Darius Tucker are involved as well as failed Southampton East candidate Doug DeCouto.

The new UBP chairman, who will be selected next month, will also be involved and a formal announcement will be made about the committee's remit soon.

Mr. Swan denied it was a committee to look at the party's internal problems.

"This committee is from the Opposition leaders office to look at how we can contribute to improving race relations in Bermuda."

Earlier this week UBP MP Darius Tucker revealed the party had set up a committee to look at what the party can do to change following its third straight election defeat.
